Georgio Meletiou was group sommelier for Sun International for ten years, based at the Palace Hotel at Sun City where he rubbed shoulders with the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Sir Cliff Richard, Paris Hilton, and Tina Turner, indulging them with his wine expertise. After that, he joined the Tsogo Sun Hotel Group as Western Cape regional sommelier.
In December 2021, he joined the team at Spier Wine Farm in Stellenbosch as resident sommelier and wine experience manager.
Georgio has completed his hotel diploma, Cape Wine Academy Diploma, and their Sommeliers qualification and is currently busy with his WSET Level 3. In addition, he is a certified wine taster (Michael Fridjhon Judging Academy) and a freelance wine judge. He is also fluent in five languages: English, Afrikaans, Italian, Greek, and Portuguese.
In his free time, if he isn't out fishing or watching Grand Prix, you will find Georgio in the kitchen cooking with a glass of wine – true to his Italian heritage.
