South African-born Pete Gottgens has been in the hospitality industry for more than 35 years. Better known as an international celebrity chef, and veteran chef who has cooked for the likes of Nelson Mandela, Bill Clinton, the Queen of England, Tony Blair and Elton John. He brings with him immense experience, an eye for detail and a desire to make Asara one the best in the South African market.

South African-born Pete Gottgens has been in the hospitality industry for more than 35 years. Better known as an international celebrity chef, and veteran chef who has cooked for the likes of Nelson Mandela, Bill Clinton, the Queen of England, Tony Blair and Elton John. He brings with him immense experience, an eye for detail and a desire to make Asara one the best in the South African market.

In his role at Asara, Pete is not only responsible for the 37-room hotel, but also the farm and winery operation.

Some of his accomplishments include the Glenfiddich Food Personality of the Year Award, Scottish Hospitality Entrepreneur of the year, Scottish Hotel Restaurant of the year, and Top Hotels of the Year awards. He was Michelin Guide listed for more than 10 years and has appeared in more than 100 television shows, some of these include Masterchef and Melting Pots.

His desire to improve the consistency and quality that Asara offers is already evident in the new wine, labels and packaging. Together with his team are now focusing on continuing to improve the quality.

He says of this new venture: “I am excited and at the same time aware of the size of this challenge. The privilege of being entrusted by the Rahmann family to make Asara a truly extraordinary estate with a warm welcoming atmosphere; and with wine and facilities to rival the best is a challenge I relish and certainly have the energy for."
