One of the foremost winemakers in South Africa, Karl Lambour is the general manager of Tokara, Stellenbosch.

Having gained his BSc Forestry Science at the University of Stellenbosch 1993 and his BSc Agric Oenology and Viticulture in 1990 also at the University of Stellenbosch, Karl has guided his impressive career to become one of the foremost winemakers in South Africa.

Career highlights over his decade as a winemaker include Bergkelder, Zevenwacht Wine Estate, Meerendal Wine Estate, Constantia Glen Winery, and Holden Manz Wine Estate, where he held the position of director of wine production, marketing and sales.

Embracing every element of the industry, Karl has honed his business skills on his personal wine journey in order to encapsulate the many facets of management and hospitality. He has become involved in the marketing, branding and sales of fine wines, making him one of only a very few winemakers with this skill set and knowledge.

“Who wouldn’t?” says Karl Lambour when quizzed about his appointment as general manager of Tokara Estate. “It’s one of the most iconic brands in the country.”

Karl’s professional associations include: Member of Classic Wine Magazine’s tasting panel, panel member for the South African Wine Club, and a panel member for the Top 50 Restaurants of the World.

Over the years Karl has accumulated numerous awards for his wines with highlights being Double Gold medals at Veritas; Gold and Best in Class at the International Wine Challenge and Decanter Wine Awards; and most impressively 93 and 92 point wines in Wine Spectator.
