Paul Farmer

Paul Farmer spent the first six years of his life in Wuppertal before his parents moved to Paarl, when his father accepted employment at the KWV. His father is currently employed by DGB and father and son work together in the Boschendal cellar.

Paul attended New Orleans Secondary School in Paarl and successfully completed his matric in 2002. After matric he temporarily joined the Boschendal team during the 2003 harvest and afterwards completed a computer skills programme. Paul joined the Boschendal team during harvest time for a few years, but in 2005 he was employed as a temporary worker. In 2006 Paul was permanently employed as a cellar assistant at the Boschendal cellar.

He is currently enrolled for the WTSA SKOP 4. He enjoys working with wine, particularly enjoys the early stages of the winemaking process.

His family motivates him and his father plays an important role in his life. His colleague Elvezo Barry’s is also an important source of inspiration in the cellar.

Paul is of the opinion that there are lots of opportunities in the wine industry but that one must make sacrifices occasionally. He also believes that team work is extremely important in the cellar.

Paul believes in the importance of characteristics such as respect, patience, perseverance and integrity and that there should be a balance between one’s personal life and one’s work.

His goal is to complete the WTSA SKOP4 and the learnership in wine making, but would like to be in a more senior position in the Boschendal cellar in the future.
Paul believes that all cellar assistants have a responsibility to learn as much as possible. He believes if one asks questions, then one’s knowledge will increase to the benefit of everyone.
