“I'm a 24 year old waiter at Southern Sun Cape Sun,” says Nambitha Jo-Anne Ndum-ndum.

Southern Sun Cape Sun & Sun Square City Bowl - Candidate Wine Steward: Nambitha Jo-Anne Ndum-Ndum
“I’v been working for Tsogo Sun for the past two years. I studied Hospitality & Tourism at the Durban University of Technology but dropped out on my second year due to lack of funding. Six months later I was employed at Tsogo Sun, and that's where my love for wines began.

Like any other waiter I served it for guests but somehow I just wanted to know more about it. I would read the labels at the back of the bottle to interact more with the international guests who were interested in South African wines.

Our company introduced its employees to Lobster Ink and the first courses I did were Wines (Burgundy & Bordeaux) and then went on to Whisky, Bar and Food &Beverages, which I all passed.

I also went out on my own to enhance my knowledge of alcoholic beverages and did my LEVEL 1 in Brandies at the Cape Wine Academy and I completed LEVEL 1 in Wines at WSET. My supervisor Miss Adams saw my interest and ambition she introduced me to an organisation called BLACC,which consists of Sommeliers, Barmen and ladies doing wine tasting on wine farms around Western Cape.

Being part of the Distell Inter Hotel Challenge will be a good opportunity for me to learn more and will be good for my career and with the help of Mr. Georgio Meletiou I have faith I will win!
