Matakatso Moshoeshoe

“I am originally from Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape, coming from a small family of four where I was the youngest,” says Matakatso.

Matakatso Moshoeshoe took 3rd place in the 2019 Distell Inter Hotel Challenge Wine Steward category

She represented Spier in the competition.
“I grew up being a very curious child and always interested to know more, this shaped me to be the women I am today."

Hospitality has always been a part of my upbringing, whenever we had visitors my parents taught us to offer guests something to drink. This laid the foundation of my career today.

After graduating from high school, I started doing promotional work for two years and realized working with people has always been part of my journey. I joined a non-profit organisation called Love Life where we focus on educating the youth on living a healthy lifestyle.

Only in 2014 I started to learn about wine and the more I learned the more I needed to know. I did preliminary wine course and never looked back, I found my passion.

In 2016 I worked as a junior wine steward at a five star restaurant at Sun International’s Boardwalk in Port Elizabeth. Now, I have joined the Spier team as a wine advisor and obtained a WSET Level 2 qualification. I would love to further my studies and look forward to what the future holds.”
