Xania van der Merwe

Xania van der Merwe is the consumer research manager at Southern Skies, managing market intelligence/research activities via its subsidiary Vintelligence.

Xania studied Consumer Science at North West University and completed her Masters degree in 2005 studying the South African retail consumers. Over her career she has held various positions in a consumer research capacity at Synovate and then AC Nielson where she headed up the mystery shopping department and worked with customer experience across Middle East & Africa.

She has done project work for Unisa around merchandising guidelines and study manuals and lectured marketing and PR at Cape Peninsula University of Technology.

Passionate about tourism and wine particularly, Xania chaired the Wellington Wine Route for two years. In a previous capacity, she also consulted to the wine route to manage its activities.

Xania has been involved in the Great Big Wine Survey since inception in 2020 and has a solid understanding of and support for the Vintelligence (within Southern Skies group company structure) vision for the future.
