Charné van Zyl

Charné van Zyl is the young assistant winemaker at Oak Valley.

Charné van Zyl studied viticulture and oenology at Stellenbosch University. Thereafter, she worked as a harvest intern at various wineries: Kaapzicht, Saltare, Rupert & Rothschild, Tegernseerhof Winery (Austria), and Benguela Cove.

After finishing the harvest season at Benguela Cove, Charné was appointed at the estate permanently as the brand and sales coordinator. During this time, she completed The Business of Wine course at The University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business (UCT GSB).

In January 2024, she was appointed as the assistant winemaker at Oak Valley.

In 2024, Charné made WineLand Media's 30 Under 30 list – a list of 30 young professionals recognised for their contributions to the South African wine industry.
