About Us

Haut Espoir - “High Hope” is a family owned vineyard and winery, nestled in the majestic mountain slopes that enclose the Franschhoek valley.

Haut Espoir - “High Hope” is a family owned vineyard and winery, nestled in the majestic mountain slopes that enclose the Franschhoek valley. The farm is 23 hectares in extent and plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot and Petit Verdot were started in 2000. We buy in quality fruit from carefully selected vineyards to complement our range. Our aim is to produce premium wines that reflect the terroir where the grapes are grown, as well as the careful viticultural practices and traditional winemaking techniques used.

The Haut Espoir philosophy is to produce premium wines that:
•Reflect the quality and character of the grapes
•Have personal care and attention to ensure personality and character
•Are balanced and in harmony
•Provide an enjoyable drinking experience

WINES PRODUCED IN HARMONY WITH THE ENVIRONMENT

A special place deserves special care. Haut Espoir is a member of the Biodiversity and Wine Initiative - a partnership between the wine industry and the conservation sector. The initiative was started in early 2004 and its aim is to minimise further losses of the natural habitat of the Cape Floral Kingdom and contribute to sustainable wine producing practices. Haut Espoir is also a Corporate Explorer Member of the Endagered Wildlife Trust. For a recent EWT function in Johannesburg, at which Rob gave a presentation on the BWI, the farm donated twelve specially bottled magnums for the auction which raised R55 000. The aim is to minimise further losses of natural habitat of the Cape Floral Kingdom and contribute to sustainable wine producing practices.

We have removed alien vegetation and dedicated over 3 hectares of mountain land to re-establishing natural fynbos floral species. Over 7000 individual plants have been planted including the rare Blushing Bride protea.

With the return of indigenous fynbos we have experienced an increase of many bird species and are now seeing evidence of Cape Mountain Leopard, caracal and grey mongoose on the farm.
