Since joining Distell in December 2000, he has played a crucial role in developing good relationships with producers by determining the prices for the grapes before the harvest and co-ordinating the entire harvest delivered to the cellars at Papegaaiberg in Stellenbosch.

Liebenberg, who spent an entire harvest season in Bordeaux after graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture from Stellenbosch University, went back to university for his Bachelor of Commerce degree before embarking on his career in viticulture. Before joining Distell, he spent four valuable years giving viticultural advice to the large number of producers for the KWV in the Boland.

Personal Perspective
“My philosophy on good wine growing is pretty simple: Find a balance in the vineyards that are situated on excellent terroir and ensure proper vineyard management by controlling the crop through proper pruning techniques, canopy management, irrigation etc. This is the basis of a good harvest of quality grapes needed for the making of our wines.”
