The very best conditions for an extraordinary wine

The area where the grapes for ALLÉE BLEUE wines are cultivated covers around 15 hectares. Additional areas are currently being developed. The shelly-sandstone soils which are characteristic of the Franschhoek Valley naturally reduce the quantity of grapes yielded by the vines. This, coupled with the ideal climate in the area, allows the grapes to develop a unique fruit concentration.

In many respects, ALLÉE BLEUE is reminiscent of a venerable European estate. Indeed, the legacy of colonisation remains unmistakable to this day. Huguenots who escaped from France founded the vineyard in 1690 with the help of dedicated Dutchmen. At the time, it was called "Mere Rust". Nowadays, however, the name ALLÉE BLEUE is an allusion to the driveway lined by old blue eucalyptus trees which marks the way to what is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and innovative vineyards anywhere in the world.
