Beau Belle is a family run business, established in 2008, when we bought a portion of the neighbouring Nagenoeg farm from the Visser Family.

All infrastructure and improvements on the property were done ourselves over the past 3 years, except for the vineyards which were already established and in production. The age of the vines range from 10 years to 12 years old and have been nursed to good health again.

The vineyards produce approximately 200 tons of grapes annually. Our winemaker, Johann Visagie, makes wine for ourselves to bottle at Vredenheim’s Cellar (which we lease from them). He also makes bulk wine with half of the crop and the other 100 tons are transported to Overgaauw who makes quality bulk wine for us. The total bulk wine production is around 125 000 litres.

We are bottling small quantities of wine at present but our plan is to double it every year and reduce the quantity of bulk wine. Our wines are made with the best quality grapes, are handpicked and handled. The winemaker’s approach is also minimal interference in the making of the wine. Our wine is matured in French oak of which 25% is in new barrels. We are also in the process of converting to organic farming practices and do not spray any harmful chemicals on our vines or soil. No fertilizers are used, only compost and guano products.

Our Shiraz 2010 was awarded a Silver medal in the 2011 Veritas competition and we also won a Bronze medal at the 2011 SA Young Wine competition for our 2011 Shiraz which is currently in barrels to mature.
