Vineyards

Our first plantings were in 1997. After extensive soil tests and planning with viticulturist Johan Wiese, we planted lots of different cultivars on different slopes to see which was best suited to our farm, and what would produce the best premium wine.

Our first plantings were in 1997. After extensive soil tests and planning with viticulturist Johan Wiese, we planted lots of different cultivars on different slopes to see which was best suited to our farm, and what would produce the best premium wine. White wines planted were Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier. Red wines planted were Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinotage and Shiraz.

Ten years after our first harvest in 2000, we removed all our Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot so as to concentrate on the cultivars that were best suited to our farm; Chenin Blanc, Pinotage and Shiraz.

In 2013 we will be replanting 6 blocks of Pinotage.

Currently planted are:

Cultivar Blocks Total Hectares
Chenin Blanc 6 6.26
Pinotage 6 7.02
Shiraz 6 4.53
Sauvignon Blanc 1 0.71
Chardonnay 1 1.00
Viognier 1 1.02
Total 21 20.54
