Background

Goedverwacht Wine Estate lies in the graceful Breede River Valley between Robertson and Bonnievale, just off the famous Route 62.

The heavy calcareous, lime-rich and fertile alluvial soil yields a good production of white and red wines of outstanding quality. Owner and winemaker Jan du Toit tends his 100 ha under vines which produce 11 000 litres. This low yield is intentional and part of the success of the prize-winning wines.

"These factors, combined with an ideal winegrowing climate enables us to make wines which winelavers love, share and talk about." says Jan.

From 1993, Goedverwacht wines have been exported as well as sold on the local market to high acclaim. In 1994 the first Goedverwacht Colombar and Sauvignon Blanc was produced, followed in 1995 by a fresh, lemony unwooded Chardonnay and a wooded one in 1997.

Since then the range has expanded to include a Merlot, a Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot and from 2002 a Shiraz.

Awards include SA Champion Colombar 2001, Reserve Champion White Wine Robertson Valley 2001, Best Value Award Winner in SA for the Colombar 2001, Silver and Bronze Medals at Veritas 2001.
