James Ochse has been the senior red wine winemaker at KWV since September 2021. Within his role, he is accountable for the whole red wine winemaking process. He is also the lead winemaker of the iconic range of Roodeberg blends.
James honed his skills at leading Stellenbosch wine cellars, including Distell and Stellenbosch Hills, after working harvests in Marlborough in New Zealand and Napa Valley in California.
His attention to detail, never compromising on quality, and a deep understanding of the role of terroir and striking a fine balance between vineyard and cellar practices have held him in good stead throughout his career.
James is a Stellenbosch panel member of the Wine and Spirit Board and holds numerous wine industry qualifications.
When he is not in the cellar, he enjoys quality time with his friends, family and their two French bulldogs, Coco and Panda. His favourite activities include running and kayaking.
