Andre Engelbrecht

When it comes to the unique combination of qualities required for the position of Robertson Winery’s Chief Executive Officer, it is, amongst other things, André Engelbrecht’s passion for business, as well as his drive to continually unite his team to create exceptional, well-priced wines that celebrate the special moments in their clients’ lives, that make him the brand’s perfect fit.

André began his career in the construction and engineering sector. However, it was through his role as Financial Manager at Riebeek Cellars that his love for the winemaking industry took hold. It was during this tenure, that the company transformed into Riebeek Valley Wine Co, one of South Africa’s first winemaking facilities to offer custom-crush capabilities to other winemakers.

Since then, and describing himself as a student of life, André has added a Post-Graduate Diploma in Tax Law, a Programme in Wine Management and a MBA (Cum Laude) to his achievements.

In terms of business philosophies to live by, André’s believes that a humble approach and an inquisitive mind are of equal value. He also believes that an in-depth appreciation for the standards of quality with regards to the goods that one trades in, as well as knowing how to communicate directly, plainly and concisely are underestimated skills in the workplace.

Like most natural leaders, André thrives on solving complex problems, as well as providing the kind of support that strives to identify, and bring out the best personal attributes of his team. He believes that this is achieved through patience and the art of listening over speaking.

André is personally motivated by the ideology that is summed up by the Butterfly Boucher song, ‘Life if short for everyone’ – and it is this, that inspires him to make the most of every day.

When he is not working, André loves to spend time with his wife and two children. He is an avid reader and is also passionate about the outdoors especially when that means diving in Sodwana Bay or hunting in the Karoo.
