Dombeya Wines
Dombeya Wines is located in Stellenbosch
, the heartland of South African wine. The estate is in the Helderberg, the revered Stellenbosch sub region which contains many of South Africa's greatest wine names.
In South Africa, the Helderberg is known as the "Golden Triangle", a moniker that recognises both the elite quality of wine produced and the roll call of outstanding producers that have chosen the Helderberg as home. Haskell Vineyards borders Rust en Vrede, Stellenzicht and Bilton.
The 23 hectare estate is focused firmly on making small volume, super-premium quality wine
. There are two distinct brands under the Haskell Vineyards umbrella.
The "Dombeya" range is the foundation brand, with six individual labels. They are the Dombeya Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Altus (Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot/Malbec blend), Boulder Road Shiraz, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Dombeya is the original title of the estate and is the name for a wild pear tree that is native to the area. The Dombeya range is designed to represent great value at its price point and to offer an insight into the capacity of the estate to make stylish wines of individuality.
The Haskell brand is our premium wine range which is produced in limited amounts. The Haskell range includes the Anvil Chardonnay, Aeon (Syrah/Mouvedre), Pillars (100% Syrah), II (Cabernet/Shiraz/Mouvedre) and IV (Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot/Petit Verdot/Cabernet Franc).
Haskell and Dombeya wines are made by leading winemaker and wine judge, Rianie Strydom. Before moving to Haskell Vineyards, Rianie was the winemaker at the highly regarded Simonsberg estate, Morgenhof, for ten years. The 2001 Morgenhof Premier Selection that she made was in 2006 judged by Decanter Magazine as their "Best New World Red".
