A Commitment to Sustainability

Simonsig is a member of the Biodiversity and Wine Initiative.

Launched in 2004, the BWI is a partnership between the South African wine industry and the conservation sector.
The aim is to conserve the Cape’s natural environment, which includes its unique, world-famous floral kingdom and to contribute to sustainable wine production.

Simonsig is fully compliant with the Integrated Production of Wine (IPW), assuring sustainable environmental production guidelines are being followed in the vineyard as well as in the cellar. IPW embraces minimising interference in the vineyard and compliance with international wine industry environmental sustainable criteria. It also guides production, processing and packaging.

The Estate is committed to the well-being of its people. Simonsig has a crèche since 1979. Teacher-carers look after 30 children between the ages of three months and 3 years old. This allows Simonsig’s workers to attend to their daily tasks with the reassurance that their children are taken care of.
In 2005 we established a Day Care centre for primary school children for our workers. The centre is guided by the Anna Foundation to promote healthy childhood development.
Simonsig is also WIETA compliant. This initiative recognises ethical trade in agriculture.

The WIETA Code of Conduct governs labour, health and safety standards and ensures through its implementation that worker rights are promoted and improvements in working conditions in the agricultural sector are achieved.
