In 2001 the site was chosen where would stand Meerhof's main cellar - carefully designed with a partial underground cellar area for gentle cooling and stunning all round views.
Meerhof now has a 300 ton production capacity and concentrates mainly on their red range with just a small amount of Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc and Viognier.

The farm Moreson has some of the best shale and granite soils, and produces high quality grapes by giving only supplementary irrigation. Forty five hectares of mostly red varieties (90%) are established on the northern side of the Riebeek Mountain. Steep west-facing slopes provide slightly cooler ripening conditions and low planting density is used. The shale and clay soils provide good drainage with sufficient water retention and all the vines are trellised with the exception of bush vine Pinotage and Merlot.

Our focus is mainly on Shiraz of which we have different blocks of Shiraz planted on different terroir, all contributing to the perfect balance, flavour, structure and intensity you will find in every bottle of our Meerhof Private Cellar Shiraz.
Also producing Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinotage and Cinsaut, our climate ensures that all our red wines show extraordinary intensity and extraction due to low yields and small berries.
Our goal with the white wines is to produce lively, fruity and crisp whites at great prices for every day enjoyment.

Meerhof's winemaker finished his cellar technology at the Elsenburg Agricultural College in 2005 and a viticulturist course in 2006. Rudi Wium was employed by Meerhof Private Cellar in 2006, and his main focus is now on Shiraz, doing excellenty in this area.
