Bellevue Estate, as it is known today, is a fourth generation Morkel family farm ( since 1861). On the fifth of October 1701, a certain Cristoffel Groenewald acquired the farm from the Governor of “Kaap de Goede Hoop”, Willem Adriaan van der Stel. In time, this portion of land came to be known as “Houd-Den-Beck” and “Houd-Den-Mond”, and in 1851 the name was officially changed to Bellevue.
