Nelsons Creek is a family owned wine farm which is situated in the fertile and picturesque Windmeul region in the Agter-Paarl area. The wines are all made exclusively from grapes grown and cared for on the farm.

The estate comprises of 132 ha of fertile soil which is highly suitable for wine production. Paarl as a valley experienced unique micro climate conditions which allows for optimal grape development and growth. On-shore breezes blowing up against the Paarl Mountain are dispersed along the valley through which the Nelson’s Creek flows, bringing cool air to the low-lying valley vineyards and easterly slopes, making these ideal for the production of high quality white wines such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc and Riesling.

Higher slopes situated on two massive hills on the Estate enjoy the heat and intensity required for premium red wines and these have been planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Ruby Cabernet, Merlot, Shiraz, Pinotage and Cinsaut.

The wide variety of soil types and high slopes facing in all directions, facilitates the production of a large variety of superb wines and in a very short space on time Nelson’s Creek has won awards for both its white and red wines.

The pride of Nelson’s Creek Wine Estate is its estate manager and winemaker, Carl Allen. Combining artistic flair, skill and charisma, Carl has weaved incredible magic at Nelson’s Creek of which the vast array of accolades and awards which the estate has received over the last three years, bears the clearest testimony.

Before joining Nelson’s Creek, Carl was both the commercial and experimental winemaker at Nietvoorbij, the technical research institute for viticulture at Stellenbosch University. There he produced in the excess of six hundred and fifty wines per year for a ten year period, making him by far the most experienced winemaker in South Africa.

Carl also serves as an official wine taster for the South African Wine and Spirit Board. He has served on this tasting panel for the past 14 years, tasting annually almost every South African wine submitted to the Board for approval.

Carl’s friendly and kind disposition, his insistence on perfectly manicured vineyards and the incredible attention to details which he demands in the cellar are unquestionable the most important contributing factors to the immense success which the Nelson’s Creek Wine Estate has and continues to enjoy.
