The History

The picturesque town of Porterville came into being in 1863.

The picturesque town of Porterville came into being in 1863, when Frederick John Owen, one of the original 1820 Settlers, subdivided his farm, Pomona, and named the new settlement after popular Attorney General of the Cape Province at the time, William Porter.

This classic country town of some 6000 inhabitants lies 140 kilometres to the north of Cape Town and is the agricultural centre of an area far removed from the big-city bustle and pollution.
