The almost chalky, dry grip of the pomegranate is such a lovely contrast to the bright fruitiness of the berries that it adds texture and breadth. Only the very best expressions of Chardonnay are selected for this wine. Focus is placed on blending components that are not necessarily obviously pungent and fruity, but rather those that are intensely and elegantly structured, promising fantastic ageability. On the nose there is a delicate balance of minerality with bursts of grapefruit pith, underpinned by subtle nuances of oak. The rounded, almost waxy, texture is punctuated by a distinct upfront grip and a finish reminiscent of Jasmine flowers and crushed oyster shells.

Yeasty biscuit notes and light citrus marmalade can be found on the nose and palate of this vibrant, energetic bubbly. Initially zesty and lively, it then morphs into a rich, sophisticated toasty, creamy and rounded mouthful with light honeyed lees notes. Rewarding, tasty and flavourful, it balances freshness and liveliness with complexity and structure. Altogether, an appeal mouthful.

Nederburg Heritage Heroes The Anchor Man Old Vine Chenin Blanc 2023

A good example of what old vines are capable of. The wine delivers rich, honeyed stonefruit aromas and flavour – but all that is matched and toned with a citrus or lime leaf nuance and well-judged acidity. The mouthfeel is impressive: focussed, compact, with a pithy lemon cream appeal and distinct body and presence. That texture on the mid-palate is beautiful and matches the poised acid and fruit. Harmonious and long with a well-resolved dry finish.
