Perdeberg The Dry Land Collection Courageous Barrel Fermented Chenin Blanc 2017

Made in a rich and ripe wooded style, this Chenin Blanc was fermented and matured in small French oak barrels. Together with the age old traditions of Dry Land viticulture, it resulted in a very aromatic and richly textured wine, with characteristics typical to Chenin Blanc grown under these conditions. Citrus, lemon zest, dried pear, peach and apricot flavours are only some of the aromas evident in the aromatics of this wine. The palate boasts hints of honey comb, pineapple and vanilla, while the finish is crisp with a well balanced acidity.

Neil Ellis Amica 2017 Magnum in Gift Box

Winemaking rules were broken to create a sophisticated style of South African Sauvignon Blanc. Made through wild fermentation and oaking in old French oak. Initial scents of white florals and fresh herbs, are supported by those of sweet stone fruits and honeysuckle, and completed by a flinty minerality. Juicy with mouth watering notes of nectarine, lime and lemongrass. A round and creamy mouth feel complimented by gentle minerality whilst the nervy acidity contributes to a youthful and vibrant finish. The 2017 Amica is a complex and textured expression of Sauvignon Blanc.

The nose of this wine tells the story of how it was made. Raspberry (Merlot), a slight herbaciousness (Cabernet Franc) and English toffee (oak) combine in a harmonious way. Malbec and Petit Verdot provide colour and spice. Very perfumy and aromatic with the earthiness of beetroot and leafy undergrowth. Juicy, concentrated blueberry fruit on palate with fresh acidity and toffee sweetness. Spicy cinnamon finish.

This South African interpretation of the famous Bordeaux-style red blend is excellent at countering fat – creamy, buttery or otherwise fat-laden dishes such as duck-liver are excellent partners. Also responds very well to red meats, game, roasts and noble, matured cheese.
