Good colour and tight, concentrated tannins from the Walker Bay area are combined with spicy, intensely flavoured wine from Elim and elegant, juicy wine from Franschhoek, to produce a wine full of flavour and complexity. The nose reflects raspberry and cranberry fruit with liquorice and green pepper spice. The splash of Viognier adds a rose-petal perfume. A vintage with a good concentration. An innovative blend like this lends itself to exciting adventures with a variety of foods

The Chamonix Troika has a deep ruby-mulberry colour on release, with scents that recall vanilla, blackberries, forest floor notes and tobacco spices. The wine is well structured; full, round and smooth on the palate with rich fruit and berry sensations, fine harmony and length of flavour.

“I simply love Grenache Rosé - I love it for all the red fruit flavours, the strawberry, pomegranate, red berry fruit and for the last few years we’ve experimented with a single vineyard rosé from Grenache. So the intent was a delightful, softly pink, elegant fruit focused wine but it had to have structure and body and a long finish on the palate - all of this almost contrary to the fact that you press the grape gently and drain off just the freshest ‘free-run juice’ with little or no chance of getting tannins or structure from the skins! We are really thrilled with the result. The most daunting reality is we now have to somehow manage to do the same this vintage!” – Ken Forrester

Nederburg Private Bin R163 Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

Heady perfume of black berry fruit, cedar spice and a subtle whiff of dried lavender. In the mouth it is gymnastic but muscular: sleek and satiny in texture but with power underpinning it, adding an inky depth. That it has generous black cassis, spiced plum and even tea leaf flavours in abundance goes without saying. With lovely interplay of all the parts – fruit, acid and oak – it is refined, elegant and structured. Beautifully poised, it lingers long.

Aromas of raspberry, cherry, blueberry and pomegranate are also found on the crisp yet juicy palate. The almost chalky, dry grip of the pomegranate is such a lovely contrast to the bright fruitiness of the berries that it adds texture and breadth. Overall, the wine is more weighty and has a greater presence in the mouth than expected. It also helps to elongate and stretch out the dry finish while the flavour lingers long
