Nederburg The Winemasters Noble Late Harvest 2024 is sweet seduction in liquid form. The wine starts with ginger blossom and jasmine, macerated dried apricots, sultanas, and even marmalade – both on the nose and palate. Unctuous, audacious and bold, it is richly sweet, but it manages not to be mawkish or cloyingly syrupy because of the lively, fresh, zingy acid, which is a necessary counterpoint. The palate is composed, bright, lively, opulent, and complex, and yet it finishes dry and clean. All that remains is a remembered symphony of beautiful flavour which lingers long.

Stellenbosch's Helderberg area is renowned for producing some of the best Cabernet Sauvignons in South Africa. La Motte's 2022 vintage is an intricate wine combining intense berry and plum fruit with clove spice and mint herbs. Expect typical Cabernet Sauvignon characteristics of prominent cigar box and oak-derived toffee in the background. Ample tannins and a full palate with an opulent consistency and persistent finish,indicate exceptional maturation potential.

Aromas of raspberry, cherry, blueberry and pomegranate are also found on the crisp yet juicy palate. The almost chalky, dry grip of the pomegranate is such a lovely contrast to the bright fruitiness of the berries that it adds texture and breadth. Overall, the wine is more weighty and has a greater presence in the mouth than expected. It also helps to elongate and stretch out the dry finish while the flavour lingers long.

Waterford Estate Grenache Single Vineyard 2022

The light ruby-red colour already denotes a lighter style of wine. On the nose, spiced cinnamon, leather, and savory cherries all build on a base of red fruit. The palate is concentrated, following the nose with red fruit and rich texture, all underpinned with an integrated acidity serving to add to the wine’s balance and poise. The structure is bolder than previous vintages but elegant and soft with a lengthy mineral finish adding to the wine’s complexity.

Evolution after 5 years
Grenache is known for showing ageing characteristics at an early stage, with the wine turning a brickish brown colour. The nose will show savoury fruit notes, as the subtle baking spice character starts to take center stage. The palate will soften, with the vibrant acidity integrating further into the wine as the balance continues to shine with the wine’s lengthy mineral finish.

Aroma: The predominance of the Sémillon in this blend opens with floral notes - honeysuckle, citrus blossom and violets, while elegant fruity notes of white pear and green apple follow. The Sauvignon Blanc component enhances the blend with aromas of freshly cut grass, grapefruit, guava and Cape Gooseberry.
Palate: White pear and citrus notes follow through on the palate. Fresh and zesty acidity with a textured and a creamy finish.
