A fine, silky tannin structure provides balance and finesse, lending both elegance and length to the finish.

in the vineyard : The grapes for this wine were sourced from old vineyards in Darling, in the Swartland region, and from Piekenierskloof, both renowned for producing premium-quality Grenache. The growing season commenced with generous winter rainfall, replenishing soil moisture reserves after several dry years. Favourable spring conditions encouraged balanced vine growth and optimal fruit development, yielding Grenache with vibrant fruit expression, freshness, and excellent phenolic ripeness.

in the cellar : When vinifying Grenache, a gentle approach is essential. The grapes were destemmed, with the whole berries layered over a bed of whole bunches. This 20% whole-bunch component contributes to the wine’s generous red berry aromatics and enhanced complexity. Fermentation proceeded over a two-week period, with only two gentle pump-overs per day to preserve the variety’s delicate fruit profile and supple tannin structure. Following fermentation, only the free-run wine was selected and transferred to a combination of third-fill French oak barrels and terracotta amphorae for eight months of lees maturation, contributing texture and complexity while maintaining the purity of fruit.
