La Bri Merlot Reserve 2002

Deepest dark brooding wine, totally opaque except for narrow brilliant ruby rim; ripe and plumy fruit shows the full spectrum of Merlot aromas – dark chocolate, roast beef, minerally ripeness, together with serious oaking which adds notes of vanilla spice and a touch of mint. Dry but no austerity here, just gorgeous sweet ripe berry fruit, a full house of dark berried fruits plump up the profile then the oak hauls it all back from being totally over the top. Dense, crammed with top-quality fruit, and fine-grained tannins from good oak have all been carefully and delicately judged for maximum pleasure.

Serve with roast duckling with cherry sauce or crown roast of lamb.
