Why Cuvée X? “Dix”. French for 10, is symbolic of the vintage 10 years after the release of the first Kaaimansgat Chardonnay. A wine produced almost by accident. This small Cuvée was originally intended as a personalized wine to celebrate the Roux family’s 100 year ownership of the farm Kaaimansgat. The wine matured beautifully and only a small portion of it was required by the Roux family, which led to the evolution of the Cuvée X label (Dix was shortened to the Roman numeral X).

ageing : The Cuvée X is a limited edition wine and will continue to be produced in exceptional vintage years.
about the harvest: In vintage 2002 the grapes again ripened late – probably the last Chardonnay to be picked in the Cape on 20th March at 24ºBalling.
in the cellar : Half of the must was fermented in new barrels while the other half was not fermented in oak at all!
