Devon Hill Shiraz 2003

Veritas 2006 - Silver
Veritas 2005 - Silver
The Shiraz is mouth-filling, but smooth and has a dark purple colour. A powerful wine! Cherry tobacco, meaty and earthy aromas with hints of mint and fudge.

in the vineyard : As the Valley lies less than 20 km from the False Bay coast, it is greatly affected by the cool south sea breezes, which prevail in the summer months. Winter brings on the moisture-laden northwest winds, which result in most of the Valley’s 750 mm of annual rainfall.
Soil: Deep red, decomposed Granite soil
Trellising: Hedged (Perold system)

about the harvest: Grapes were harvested from a single vineyard at 25°B.
Yield: 8 tons/ha

in the cellar : The fermentation took place at 25 – 28°C with pump-overs at regular intervals. Fermented until dry before being pressed. Only the free-run wine was used. Malolactic fermentation was allowed before maturation in 1/3 new and 2/3 second fill barrels for 12 months.
