Bouchard Finlayson Tete de Cuvee 2000 Galpin Peak Pinot

2005 Juliet Cullinan Connoisseur's Award Winner
Dark, intense, tight and budding with real complexity. Structured tannins promise many years of forward development endorsing a rich wine which will grow with good cellaring. Needs time to get the best from its chunky character of subdued black and red berry fruit.

The multitude of layers of flavour one finds in Pinot Noir, make it wonderfully food flexible. Enjoy with a wide range of fish, poultry, pork and red meat dishes. Great with a selection of cheese and rich berry fruit! Choose the company carefully; each bottle is limited to only 750ml!

ageing : Suggested aging is five to twenty years.

in the vineyard : The title of “Tête de Cuvée” has traditionally only been accorded to selected batches of limited release wines. These small bottlings are an expression of the winemaker’s desire to find the best barrels from a specific vintage. Vintage 2000 offers the smallest release of Tête de Cuvée to date; only four barrels were bottled and five years delay was offered before release, the longest maturation time afforded to any Bouchard Finlayson wine prior to release.

about the harvest: Vintage 2000 was a tough season for Pinot noir. A dry summer characterised by a December heat wave which culminated in a severe hailstorm just before Christmas. The grapes suffered some damage and the crop was reduced, but despite all this abuse from the weather gods, the end product is extremely pleasing.
