Foot of Africa Pinotage Shiraz 2004

This blend was carefully selected to bring out the ripe sweet berry, slightly woody flavours of the Pinotage backed by the fresh, spicy, pepper flavours of the Shiraz.

This Pinotage/Shiraz blend can be enjoyed with various dishes like lamb, curry or any roasts with a not too spicy sauce.

in the vineyard : This blend consists of 60% Kleine Zalze Pinotage and 40% Coastal region Shiraz. The Pinotage and Shiraz grapes were picked separately at optimum ripeness (between 23 - 24° Balling) from established vineyards growing in deep red soils. Yields averaged at 6 tons per hectare.
about the harvest: The grapes were picked early in the morning and after destalking left to cold soak for 3 days at 9°C.
in the cellar : After fermentation with inoculated yeast the Pinotage was matured for 11 months in older French oak barrels, after which it was blended with the tank fermented Shiraz.
