The Muratie Cape Vintage port is produced from a single vineyard planted in 1965.The vines were planted on a modified Perold trellising system. The different varieties (Tinta Barocca, Tinta Roritz, Tinta Francesca, and Souzao) are all planted in the same block.
in the cellar :
The hand harvested grapes are crushed, destalked and pumped into a classic open concrete fermenter. Here manual pumpovers and plungedowns are done on a regular, continious basis. Fermentation is initiated and at the critical stage fortification with grape spirits is done. The fortified wine is matured in old French barrels prior to being bottled.
