in the cellar : One often hears the words new clone when the topic of South African cabernet Sauvignon arises. New clone itself can mean cleaned-up old South African clone, which still provides wines with traditional flavours or an imported, totally different clone, such as the Schleipp CS 163C which is often identified by an individual minty characteristic. Either of these can be made in the new style (more sophisticated wine-making techniques producing wines with a good structure and lots of fruit with greater use of new oak) - therefore new clone must not be confused with new style. Villiera Cabernet Sauvignon is a combination of cleaned-up clone and new style.
