Beaumont Raouls Rustic Red 1999

A house-style wine with attitude, from old low-yield tinta barocca vines. The Mike Tyson of quaffers: huge (like winemaker Niels Verberg), 14,5% alc, individual, loads of earthy flavour, intriguing hints of peanut shells, zero tannin, lashings of rich vanilla oak. This wine has a vibrant ruby colour, soft cherry, plum with hints of spice on the nose, succulent ripe fruit backed by gently tannins.
A good quality easy drinking wine, excellent with pasta and other light dishes. A brilliant winter warmer!

in the cellar : We have traditionally sold the Tinta Barocca grapes to the Co-op but for the last 3 years have vinfied them in the cellar for our own blending purposed and for bulk wine sales. The consistently good quality of the wine from old low yield vineyards encouraged us to bottle a small quantity in January 1999. The wine flew out the cellar door within a matter of weeks. We recognised a niche in our market for a good house wine style and in looking for a name settled on Raouls Rustic Red.
