Miko Cabernet Sauvignon 2006

This blend was made to fulfil Mont Rochelle’s Miko premium range. The blend comprises of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7.5% Petit Verdot, and 7.5% Syrah. All grapes used in this blend come from the Estate, giving an idea of what Mont Rochelle’s fruit is capable of producing. An intense inky red colour is understated by classic cassis with hints of blackberry and a perfumed finish. The palate is highly concentrated with nice fleshy fruit and elegant yet structured tannins that help contribute to the length and balance of the wine.

Decanter 2009:

Silver
in the vineyard : This particular Cabernet is made of Four separate batches and therefore ultimately Four separate blocks. The first batch Of Cabernet Sauvignon is situated on the foot of the Dassenberg Mountain on Alluvial Clay soils. Once again these heavier soils necessitate crop control and canopy management with is done rigorously. These grapes were planted in 1999 and are clone CS163I, and are also grafted onto 101 14 rootstock. The second batch is situated on the slopes of the Dassenberg Mountain in decomposed granite and hutton soils. These sols are a little lighter and therefore less management is needed. This block usually adds a minty eucalyptus touch. The Petit Verdot sector in the blend is situated part way up the Dassenberg mountain. And very low yields are recieved from this vineyard that help with fruit concentration. Finally the Syrah portion of the blend comes from the highest vineyard on the farm, situated in the Decomposed granite sector. Very small concentrated berries are achieved from this block.
