Elgin Valley Vineyards Shiraz 2008

This is the first vintage of Shiraz under the Elgin Valley brand. It has a particularly fruity nose with plumbs dominating the peppery Shiraz character. The mouth feel is nice and round and easy drinking with just the desired tannins and fruity aftertaste.

about the harvest: The grapes were hand harvested in the morning when their ruby red colour was at its deepest.

in the cellar : The grapes were crushed and fermented on the skins to extract the colour before gentle bag pressing and racking to a combination of new and second fill American and French Oak barrels. The wine was allowed to undergo malolachtic fermentation and barrel maturation for 1 year. The best barrels were blended together before it was bottled in antique green bottles under screw cap and laid down for 4 months before release.
