in the cellar : The success of our higher priced wines, Old Vines Chenin Blanc, Old Vines Barrel Reserve and Blue White led us to believe that we should have a more moderately priced wine in the range, a wine that we could recommend for every day drinking.

With our access to some of the best vineyards in the Cape we are able to offer a wine with good fruit concentration and excellent flavour which one would only expect from far higher priced wines. We are able to achieve this because of the good quality of grapes and the considerable experience that we have built up over the years in the higher priced market.

Cheerful White is made from grapes grown in the Stellenbosch area and all the vineyards are situated on cool slopes where they catch the afternoon breezes during the heat of the Cape summer. The grapes therefore have better composition with good natural acidity to balance the beautiful ripeness which is so easily achieved in South Africa. The wine is made completely naturally using cool fermentation in stainless steel. This produces a fresh and livelly wine that is ready within six months of the harvest. We have found that it ages gracefully over a period of two years. Unusually for most South African producers, we are able to increase production of this wine significantly on demand.
