Two Oceans Confluence White 1999

The wine has distinctive melon and guava aromas on the nose. On the palate it is medium-bodied with a fine balance and a crisp, lingering aftertaste.

in the vineyard : The Chenin Blanc grapes for this wine came from vineyards in the Perdeberg/Wellington area. The vineyards are situated at 130 to 190 metres above sea level and was planted from 1971 to 1988. The vines grow in Hutton and Clovelly soils with a high percentage of stone fractions. The vineyards are planted as bush vines and received supplementary irrigation.

The rainfall during the winter was considerably lower than the long term figures. Temperatures during the growing season was higher during the day and lower during the night than usual. The ripening period was marked by slightly higher temperatures while the rainfall was double the figures of the previous year.

about the harvest: The grapes were picked by hand at 22 to 23°Balling.

in the cellar : In the cellar the juice received 4 hours skin contact. The juice fermented at 14°C for 14 days.
