ageing : Can be enjoyed now but will develop further complexity in the bottle.

in the vineyard : To his friends and family he was 'Pod', but to the Cape Winelands he was Bernard Podlashuk, the maverick winemaker. Never quite satisfied to be just ordinary, he is recognised for his daring vision, sheer audacity and unabated drive that helped place South African wine on the map. The legend of Bernard's tenacity and innovative lair lives on through The Bernard Series, Bellingham's premium range of extraordinary wines.

Vineyard Practice
The grapes used to make this wine come from a single bush vine vineyard block growing in decomposed granite soil with good water holding capacity. The block yields an average of 4 tons per hectare. This is one of the oldest Sauvignon Blanc blocks in Darling and also the highest Sauvignon Blanc vineyard in the area (347m above sea level). The close proximity to the sea cools the vineyard resulting in good colour and lavour.

about the harvest: Grapes were hand-picked at 24° Balling.

in the cellar : After bunches were hand sorted, only the free-run juice was used to make this wine. Wine spent 12 months on the lease and in French oak barrels, first and second fill barrels were used.
