in the vineyard : The grapes came from vineyards in the Stellenbosch area, planted at 50 to 180 metres above sea level from 1962 to 1987. The vines, grown as bush vines, were established in soft, decomposed granite soils and deep, red Hutton soil.
The climate
The rainfall during the winter period was below average and poorly distributed. Temperatures were higher than usual. This was followed by a warm to mild spring and a cool ripening period.
