This Merlot displays delightful red berry fruits, cassis and violets on the nose with underlying mineral notes. The elegant, soft fruit follows onto the palate revealing luscious raspberries and cherries interlaced with a hint of chocolate. Well integrated tannins imparted from 16 months maturation in French oak barrels gives the wine a well balanced mouth feel and lingering finish.

Eikenhof: Clone Mo348 grafted onto Richter 110, trained using the conventional VSP (Vertical shoot position) trellis system. Glen Rosa soils

Beaulieu: Clone Mo 343 grafted onto Richter 110. The Smart-Dyson trellising system was used in this vineyard in order to kerb excess vigour induced by the high potential Tukulu soil type and to maximize sunlight interception.

in the cellar : The grapes were hand-harvested at 24.5° Balling, meticulously sorted to get rid of any unripe or shrivelled berries, gently crushed and cooled to 10-12°C. Cold soaking of 3 days preceded temperature-controlled fermentation to enable extraction of colour and flavour. Extraction was achieved by regular pump over and two delestages at 16 and 12° B respectively. Pips were removed during this process to get rid of harsh unwanted pip tannins.

The wine was pressed at -1.2 °B, no pressings added. Maturation occurred in 225 litre French oak barrels for 16 months. The wine was racked once. The new wood component was 60 %. The toasting levels ranged from M to M+ in order to create a fuller mid pallet and lovely toast and caramelised flavours and exceptional integration and harmony with the delectable fruit of the wine.
