Boschendal Cecil John Reserve Shiraz 2008

This first impression of this wine is the very definitive aroma. It displays strong tones of black cherries and concentrated red currants. The palate delivers the same taste experience, backed up by an eloquent tannin structure, the oak adding a subtle but powerfull layer to the wine.

This is a wine to be enloyed with a good friend, quite reflection and perfectly prepared rare rack of lamb.

AWARDS
5 Stars - John Platter 2011

ageing : The wine is ready to be consumed now but will improve over the next 5 years.

in the vineyard : 100% Shiraz from two adjacent vineyards on the same farm in the Bottlelary hills.

Spur pruning began in mid-July, followed by shoot thinning in mid-October, which left an average of two or three shoorts per spur. This exercise was repeated in early December, when excess shoots were removed. Careful tipping of the shoots, commenced at the end of January to ensure concentration of nutrients in the berries. Small, uneven bunches were removed two weeks prior to harvesting.

about the harvest: There was a longer waiting period before the onset of harvest in 2008, with the most grapes ripening during the 3rd week of march. These grapes were harvested at full ripeness. Creating flavours in the grapes varying between darl cassis to rosemary and white pepper spice.

in the cellar : The two vineyards were co-fermented to allow combination of exquisite aromas of both components. The wine was matured in french oak barrels for a period of 18 months, the majority of the oak being second fill barrels. Only 14 barrels was ndividually selected for the final blend.
