in the vineyard :  Background
The Neethlingshof estate in Stellenbosch is named after its illustrious 19th century owner, Marthinus Laurentius Neethling, who served as mayor of Stellenbosch and was also a member of the old Cape Parliament. His flamboyant bearing earned him the moniker "Lord Neethling".

The estate is owned jointly by Distell and LUSAN.

The vineyards (viticulturist: Eben Archer)
The grapes were picked from vines planted in 1992 in deep, red Tukulu soils in south-facing vineyards situated 170 metres above sea level. The vineyard, known as "Weisser on the hillside" received no irrigation.

about the harvest: This Veritas gold winner was made from grapes affected by botrytis cinerea, hand-picked at 34º Balling in March.

in the cellar :  The juice was fermented at 13º to 14ºC over 18 days with just 24 hours skin contact. No malolactic fermentation was allowed. The wine was stablised and bottled in June.
