Mooiplaas Watershed Syrah 2008

Very dark colour, almost black, nose shows notes of black cherry, along with spicy fynbos and smoked venison. The palate offers excellent focus and intensity, multi layered with dark chocolate and fennel underpinned by silky tannins.

in the vineyard :  Grapes from two adjacent blocks high against the Bottelary Hills, so called Rooirug (RedBack), 3½ ha in size, at 280m above sea level on a steep eastern slope.

in the cellar :  Fermented 7 days until dry in closed stainless steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation naturally in barrel. Barrels were 100% French oak 225 litre - stayed in barrel for 16 months.
