KWV The Mentors Orchestra 2010

As with a fine orchestra, this blend showcases the unique individual attributes of the different varietals, but together delivers a complexity beyond the sum of the components. This complex red wine shows layers of rich red berry fruit, marzipan and savoury aromas which are complimented with subtle integrated nuances of cedar and cigar box. The palate is soft and textured with hints of pepper, clove and spice. The finish is smooth and lingering.

Enjoy with a rare juicy fillet or risotto dishes.

Treatment in vineyard
Each site was nurtured to perfection. During veraison uneven ripened bunches were removed. Only the best bunches were selected during harvest. The vineyards or parcels from blocks were selected because each has some unique characteristic. One golden thread that ties them all together is the fact that vines are in balance and as such represents the nature of the vineyard site from which the wine was made..

Vintage conditions
Cool temperate conditions during the growing season resulted in small, concentrated berries. Veraison was even, therefore ensuring even ripening of grapes. The period was characterized by low disease incidence. During harvest, the cooler than average summer temperatures resulted in an excellent balance between sugar and acid. Lower yields deliver a well balanced wine that offers intense fruit flavours.

Winemaking

These bunches were hand-picked and hand sorted in the small KWV Mentors cellar, which ensured that only the best of each varietal went into this blend. After fermentation, only the most promising wines of each varietal were chosen to mature further in barrel. After 12 months of maturation the best wines were selected to mature for a further 4 months. This wine is truly about the selection of best of the best.
