Delheim Vera Cruz Shiraz 2009

Intense aromas of black pepper and spice, supported by blackberry and savoury undertones. Due to the limited size of production, the Vera Cruz Shiraz is unique and represents the pinnacle of quality from the Delheim cellar.

2013 John Platter Wine Guide - 5 stars

ageing : This wine will benefit from bottle maturation for 6 - 8 years.

in the vineyard : The vineyards were drip-irrigated to prevent the vines from becoming stressed. Fruit quality was optimized through crop reduction and selective handpicking at optimum ripeness from a 19-year-old double-row of bush vines.

about the harvest: Grapes were hand-picked and de-stemmed

in the cellar : After the handpicked grapes had been de-stemmed and crushed, the juice was fermented in upright stainless steel tanks with the aid of selected yeast strains, with the temperature controlled at 25-28°C. The wine was pumped- over thrice a day until fermented dry, and then matured for fifteen months in a combination of French and American oak 225 litre barriques (all new). This wine is a fine blend from only the top eleven best of these.
