Two Oceans Rose 1999

The wine is salmon orange in colour with fresh and delicate strawberry and burnt cherry aromas on the nose. On the palate it is well-balanced with juicy, fruity flavours. It is the ideal wine for a hot summers day.

in the vineyard : The wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir grapes. The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes came from vineyards in the Stellenbosch and Durbanville areas, planted at 165 to 245 metres above sea level from 1988 to 1989. The vineyards face southwest to north and received supplementary to no irrigation.

The Pinot Noir grapes came from vineyards in the Stellenbosch area, planted in 1981 at 230 metres above sea level. The vineyards face southwest to west and are trellised.

about the harvest: The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were picked by hand at 22,3°Balling during March 1999. The Pinot noir grapes were picked by hand at 22,1°Balling during February 1999.

in the cellar : In the cellar the juice was left on the skins for 12 hours. It fermented cold at 14°C for 14 days. The wine was blended in a ratio of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Pinot Noir and 8% Sauvignon Blanc.
