Beyerskloof Diesel Pinotage 2010

Colour:  Deep ruby red.

Bouquet:  Rich blackcurrent, dark cherries, prunes and ceder oak aromas.

Tasting Notes:  A big structured Pinotage with intense dark fruit flavours. A complex middle leads to a smooth finish with pleasant cedar and mocha flavours from the oak. Great balance between fruit and oak will allow for ageing superbly in the bottle for 10 years and more. The ideal match to spicy Indian dishes or a well matured fillet or rump steak.

Pairs lovely with game dishes that include Kudu, Springbok or Oryx.

ageing : Made for maturation, this huge Pinotage will keep well in the bottle for 15 years and longer.

in the vineyard : Soil:  Oakleaf
Trellising:  Bush vines
Age of Vines:  Between 15 and 20 years

about the harvest: Above average rainfall and cold weather during winter ensured a good water intake by the soils for growth season. Early budding of the vines started because of warm conditions during September. The start of summer had a lot of rain as well as strong winds which caused uneven ripening, smaller berries and lower yields. High temperatures during summer made for an early harvest. The 2010 harvest will be remembered for small yields especially on the red cultivar but ensured greater quality.
