This 2012 vintage is a sculptured wine. It is "bouncy" and dances on the tongue with delicious reward from its luscious fruit expression. There is a distinct mineral quality which is symptomatic of the dry land conditions under which the grapes are produced.

in the vineyard : The first Chardonnay grapes from Kaaimansgat (Crocodile's Lair) vineyard were processed at the Bouchard Finlayson winery in 1992. Twenty one years later we now have the privilege of releasing the 2012 vintage from this legendary vineyard. Time has added character and expression to these grapes where cropping levels have been declining over the latter years. Lower cropping levels mean richer fruit! The location is some 80kms from Hermanus in the beautiful Elands Kloof valley at the village of Villiersdorp where the vines are non-irrigated and further benefit from their high, sloping, mountain position.

in the cellar : Wood maturation is once again 25% new wood with the balance all enjoying ageing in best French oak according to classic Burgundian, Chardonnay tradition.
