Tormentoso Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Inviting nose of sweet coconut, tobacco and classic Cabernet cassis. These flavours follow through on the palate, backed by vanilla oak flavours from the barrel maturation. The juicy red wine gum flavours on the palate provide a lingering, lengthy finish.

The 2012 vintage was a good vintage for both red and white wines in the Agter-Paarl region. With dry weather and little rain throughout the growing season, the vines remained healthy and ripened their fruit easily. The crop was smaller than  sual, but the grapes were of a high quality. Temperatures in Stellenbosch were warmer earlier in the season, but cooled off towards the end allowing for slower and more balanced ripening.

in the cellar : Grapes were given a one day cold maceration. Fermentation took place over 5 days in stainless steel tanks with regular pump overs. Just before dryness, the wine was pressed and put back into tank for malo-lactic fermentation. 100% of the wine was matured in 225L and 300L oak barrels (55% new) for 15 months. Stellenbosch grapes adds grip and complexity while Paarl grapes add finesse and a plummy texture. Fined and filtered before bottling, first vintage in cork.

Total Production: 2000 x 6 x 750ml
